No. 0 Poco Proof Press My newest acquisition is a No. 0 Poco Proof Press. According to Barnhart Brothers & Spindler, Catalog 25: "The No. 0 Poco Proof Press is large enough for 12x18 galleys. It takes a good proof and as a means of lowering costs and improving service its reputation is established. For the printer who wants only a small reliable proofing machine at a very modest outlay of money, the Poco No. 0 is just the thing. The stand for it is made and furnished the same as for other Poco proof presses, and while not absolutely essential, it is very desirable and convenient. All Poco Proof Presses are provided with means for adjusting the impression. Send for descriptive circular and prices." Bed Size, Inches: 12x18 The Poco Press was manufactured by Hacker Manufacturing of Chicago. My press is serial #1124. If anyone has any information about manufacturing dates I would be very interested. (The press is likely from the 1920's.) As you can see from my press, I don't have the "desirable and convenient" stand. My press is also missing the small shelf that can be seen above the roller in illustrations of the press in ATF and BBS books. Once I get it "up and running," this press will give me the capacity to print larger broadsides. And if I get really ambitious and install a chase-mounted tympan and frisket as Neil Giroux has with his Poco, I'll be able to print multiple colors with pretty good registration.
