Holly Border This is a set of borders that were in one of the bottom drawers of an old type cabinet I purchased a couple of years ago. (The cabinet has been the source of several interesting finds -- despite the runs of Spartan and Wedding Text.) I can't find the border in the couple of books I have (most notably the 1912 ATF Specimen book). I'd like to give them a name -- and I'd like advice on how to print with them. NOTE: The mystery has been solved. Thanks to the help of some members of the letterpress list -- and to the 1923 ATF Specimen Book. These borders appear on page 663 of the ATF book, with the descriptive title, Holiday Borders.
Other Holiday Borders In the same case were the following borders. I found matches in my 1912 ATF Specimen book for the first two -- but I can't find the third border. Does anyone have names for them. (The end pieces don't match the borders...I just threw them in for good measure.) The top border is identified as Flemish Border, 18
pt., No. 5 (ATF 1912, p. 1065)
More Borders And in the interest of making this my "Border Page," I printed up a couple of other borders that were in the cabinet. (These borders are illustrated in the 1912 ATF book.) Top: Laurel Border, 12 pt. (ATF 1912, p. 1028)
Thank you for looking. |
