This is a small (about 80-pages) paperbound book of the types currently available from Bauer.  (Bauer appears to be the letterpress division of Neufville ¬ located in Barcelona.)

Metal Types for hand composition

The catalog at hand shows types manufactured in lead for letterpress printing.  It contains typefaces which have been most successfully sold during many decades by famous european type foundries.  Names like Bauersche Giesserei, Fundición Tipográfica Neufville, Ludwig & Mayer, Lettergieterij Amsterdam, Fonderie Typographique Française and Fundición Tipográfica Nacional have marked a glorious epoch in the History of Typography of the two last centuries.  The typefaces Futura, Folio, Weiss, Schneidler, Beton, Prestige, Legend, Charme, Excelsior and others were in use by most printers in the world before photocomposition and desk top publishing came up.  Fundicion Tipografica Neufville took over all the aforementioned type foundries in the 1970s and concentrated the manufacturing in Barcelona.  And since 1995, Fundicion Tipografica Bauer assumes, as one of the last manufacturers of metal type in the world, the continuity of this great tradition.  Digital Typography is ruling our present times, but there still exist craftmen who appreciate the unsurpassable beauty of texts composed by hand and printed by letterpress.  We dedicate to them this catalogue, produced with these traditional methods.
